Budget Analysis That Actually Makes Sense

Started in 2021 because we got tired of seeing people confused by their own money. Based in Annandale, we work with Australian households and small businesses who want straight answers about where their funds go.

Quick Insights Worth Knowing

These are the essentials we share with every client. Simple stuff that tends to get overcomplicated elsewhere.

Financial patterns analysis workspace

Pattern Recognition

Most budget issues show up as patterns, not one-time events. We look at three months minimum because that reveals what actually happens versus what you think happens. January spending rarely matches June spending, and that matters more than people realize.

Cash flow tracking tools and methods

Cash Flow Reality

Income timing creates more problems than income amount. We map when money arrives versus when bills hit. Sounds basic, but this mismatch causes 60% of the stress we see in client consultations during 2025.

Variable expense planning methodology

Variable Costs

The expenses that change month to month need their own category system. Groceries, fuel, utilities—they fluctuate, and pretending they don't leads to budget failure. We track ranges instead of fixed amounts because that reflects how life works.

Future cost preparation strategies

Forward Planning

Annual costs sneak up if you don't divide them monthly. Car registration, insurance renewals, school fees—these should get factored into every month's plan so they don't blindside you when they arrive.

How We Got Here

Started small, stayed focused. Here's what changed as we learned what actually helps people manage their finances better.

2021

Starting Point

Launched with basic budget tracking spreadsheets for ten local clients in Annandale. Manual process, lots of email back and forth, but it worked. Realized people needed someone to actually look at their numbers with them instead of just handing them a template.

2022

Method Development

Built our three-month analysis approach after watching too many clients try to fix their budget based on one unusual month. Added cash flow timing maps because income-expense misalignment kept causing problems that looked like spending issues but weren't.

2023

Business Focus Addition

Small business owners kept asking for help, so we adapted our household methods for business cash flow. Turns out the principles transfer well—pattern recognition, timing analysis, and variable cost management matter just as much for a cafe as a family.

2024-2025

Current Approach

Now working with clients across Queensland while staying based in Annandale. Our analysis process takes about two weeks from initial data review to delivery of recommendations. We keep refining based on what actually helps versus what sounds good in theory.

Thornley Baskin

Been doing budget analysis since 2018, started nodexferflow in 2021. Background in accounting but found traditional approaches too rigid for how real people handle money. Spent three years at a financial planning firm before realizing most clients needed help with the basics before investment strategies made any sense.

These days I work with about forty active clients—mix of households and small businesses across Queensland. Most sessions happen over video call, though some clients prefer in-person meetings here in Annandale when schedules allow.

The best budget analysis isn't about perfect categories or complex formulas. It's about understanding what someone actually does with their money versus what they think they do. That gap tells you everything you need to know to start improving things.
